Fictional letter. Illustrates the planned result.

Sound familiar?

Japanese-only letters, real deadlines, and no one to ask.

Another envelope from the ward office. Tax? Pension? A fine? No idea.

The camera translator gives me the words, not what I’m supposed to do, or by when.

I filed my visa renewal months ago, heard nothing, and my card expires next month.

If my residence card lapses, will the bank freeze my account?

The city’s English help desk is open on weekdays, while I’m at work.

Everyone says the permanent-residency rules just changed. Do I still qualify?

Missing a payment slip means late fees. Missing a renewal can cost you far more. Nanikore is built so neither happens quietly.

What you get

Every letter answered in three lines.

1

What it is

Point your phone at any letter. Get who sent it, what it’s about and whether it actually matters, in plain English.

  • Resident tax, pension, health insurance
  • Ward office, utilities, landlord
  • Cover your name and numbers first if you like
2

When it’s due

The deadline and amount are pulled out and turned into a reminder a few days ahead, so a payment slip never expires in a drawer.

  • Email or calendar reminders
  • Every deadline in one list
  • Installments tracked through the year
3

What to do

Step-by-step next actions: where to pay, which counter to visit, what to bring, and when it’s worth calling a professional.

  • Konbini, bank or ward-office steps
  • Plain-English reply drafts
  • Your visa dates on the same calendar

Residence-card timeline

Your visa renewal, on your radar three months early.

Enter your card’s expiry date (just the date, never a photo of the card). Nanikore tells you when the renewal window opens, what to prepare, and what to do if a decision is slow.

  1. 3 months before expiry
Renewal window opens. You can apply from about three months before your card expires.
  2. The weeks after
Checklist reminders for the documents your status usually needs, so nothing is missing on the day.
  3. Filed, still waiting?
You’re not illegal. If you applied before expiry you can stay while it’s decided, for up to two months past the date. We explain what to show your bank or employer.
  4. Expiry date
A final alert, and a pointer to a licensed specialist if your case needs one.

General information, not legal advice. Nanikore doesn’t prepare or file immigration applications.

Why not just translate it?

Translation gives you words. Nanikore gives you the next step.

“National health insurance premium payment notice, 6th period, payment deadline Reiwa 8 November 30…”

Nanikore

“Health insurance bill. Pay ¥18,400 at a konbini by Monday 30 Nov. I’ll remind you on the 27th.”

Questions

Is Nanikore live?

Not yet. We’re building it now and onboarding early users in waves. Join the list and we’ll email you when your spot is ready. There’s no account to log into yet, and nothing is charged.

What happens to photos of my letters?

On this page you share nothing but your email. In the product, letters will be read to produce your summary and reminders. We’ll never sell them or use them for advertising, and you can cover names and numbers (like My Number) before you snap. We’ll publish the exact storage and deletion policy before anyone uploads a letter.

Is this legal or immigration advice?

No. Nanikore explains what a letter says and reminds you of dates. It isn’t a law firm or a gyoseishoshi (licensed administrative scrivener) and won’t prepare or file immigration applications. When a case needs a professional, it tells you so.

Which letters will it understand?

The everyday ones first: resident tax, national pension, national health insurance, ward and city-office notices, utility and landlord letters. Founding members help choose what comes next.

Why pay when translation apps are free?

Translation tells you what the words say. Nanikore tells you what the letter means for you: is it a bill, what’s the deadline, where do you pay, and it reminds you before the date.

Which languages?

English at launch. Other languages are on the list; when we email you about your spot, tell us which one you’d want.
